Family Activities 

  

When you think of your most treasured Christmas memories, you are likely to think of the time spent with family – not what presents you gave and received! So here we have a list of ways to make memories with your loved ones this Christmastime without overspending. 


Markets 

- Clare Market: 3rd Saturday of the month 8.30am to 2.30pm 
 
- Haverhill Market: every Friday and Saturday 8am to 4pm 
 
- Mildenhall Market: every Friday 9am to 3pm 
 
Walking Trails 
Abbeycroft Leisure - Free sessions - primarily for children entitled to Free School Meals 
 
Programmes running from Thursday 21st December to Friday 29th December 2023 in Haverhill and across Suffolk, and families are encouraged to book onto as many of these events as possible!  

Family Park Cooking - Every family will cook a hearty lunch and receive ingredients for the whole family. 
Adventure Days - A 9 hour Action Packed Adventure Day including a breakfast, lunch and snacks. 
Teen Challenge Days - Activities such as Snorkelling, Climbing and Combat Archery including hot food. 
Swimming - Free swimming and a lunch for families. 
Duke of Edinburgh Award - A fully funded Bronze award programme including camping, away days and more! 
Xmas Family Food Boxes - Christmas Dinner and Boxing Day lunch ingredients and family activity pack

-Walking Nativity – 2nd December - free of charge 

The story begins in Haverhill Methodist Church at 12pm, continues to the Market Square, and finishes in St Mary’s Church, where there will be free gifts for children and refreshments available for all. 

There are plenty of photo opportunities along the way, including a nativity board where participants can see what they would have looked like bedded down in the stable, and a live donkey along the walk. 

 
-Christmas Activities and Lights Switch On – 2nd December -Haverhill Market Square 
 
  • Old-style rides and attractions on Market Square 
  • Community, charity and small trader stalls in Queen Street, plus street performers. 
  • The New Haverhill Santa’s Sleigh  
  • Christmas Lights Switch-On event will take place in front of the Christmas Tree on the market square at approximately 4.45pm. 
  • Firework display at 5.30pm on the Recreation Ground. 
 

- Sunday Crafts for Children aged 2-10 years - Haverhill Library 
4th December onwards (every Sunday), 11:00-12:00 and 14:00-15:00  

-Create festive crafts with the kids, to be handed out as gifts – lots of suggestions here www.gathered.how/arts-crafts/christmas-crafts-for-kids/

- Visit the library to find and read some Christmas themed books together 

-Snuggle up and watch some Christmas films together at home 

-Take a tour of your local area to admire everyone’s Christmas lights
